Plan your Mt. Fuji trip around what is actually happening today

Mt. Fuji is often hidden by cloud, buses do not always run on the timetable you found last month, and a lot of the advice online was written for a different season. Fuji Samurai puts the official information in one place so you can decide for yourself: whether to go, when to go, and how to get around.

We publish observation data and announcements from the Japan Meteorological Agency and other official sources as they are. We do not produce our own weather forecast, and we do not tell you whether conditions are safe.

NEW TO THE AREA? Kawaguchiko & the Fuji Five Lakes: a first-time guide What the area actually is, how much time to allow, whether you need a car, and what to check before you go. Read this first if you are still working out the shape of your trip. STAYING THE NIGHT? Where to stay around Lake Kawaguchiko Four realistic bases, why the two shores of the lake are not interchangeable, and what to confirm before you reserve. No rankings.

Chureito Pagoda is on the Fujiyoshida side, up 398 steps — not a stop on the lake loop.

Work out where to go, in order

Answer four questions — car or no car, half day or full day, who you are travelling with, and what matters most — and the planner suggests which places to visit around Lake Kawaguchi and in what order, with the bus stop numbers, opening hours and walking distances attached to each stop.

Where the information comes from

  • Official sources. Observations, warnings and forecasts come from the Japan Meteorological Agency. Bus routes, opening hours and access details come from the operators and facilities themselves.
  • Our own guidance is labelled. Where we estimate something — how long to spend somewhere, how much walking is involved — we mark it as our estimate, not an official figure.
  • No forecasts, no safety verdicts. We do not publish a Fuji Samurai weather forecast, and we do not judge whether it is safe to climb or travel. That decision stays with you.
  • Check before you travel. Conditions, timetables and closures change. Please confirm the latest official information on the day.
